Here's How Much It Costs To Fix Dents on Fords Aluminum Bodied F-150

Quote :
Yesterday Edmunds.com gave their pristine 2015 Ford F-150 some enthusiastic thwacks with a sledgehammer, putting two dimples in the quarter panel and cracking the taillight. Today they got the bill, and they're saying it cost four times as much to repair the aluminum bed versus old-school steel.

Quote :
Ford's response to that is: "With the proper tools and training, cosmetic repairs to aluminum body panels will take a similar amount of time as steel panel repairs. We know this from the hood of the F-150, which has been aluminum since 1997. Repair data show it takes a comparable amount of time to repair F-150 hood dents as it does competitors' steel hoods.

In the case of major collision damage, in many cases, the new F-150 will be easier to repair, thanks to its innovative modular structure, which reduces repair time and helps save costs."

Well, there goes the beer can thin theory. I would think with the ultra thin steel bodies on some trucks they would be repairing both sides. That does seem like a ridiculous price though. Time will tell. If Ford says repairs should be similarly priced, they need to back it up.

It would be nice to own a truck that would rust out over time. Every time I wax my truck I see small surface rust. I don't know if I notice it more since I have a white truck?

The elements especially where you live are hard on metals.  The small impediments left on vehicle paint surface for extended periods do their toll.  The key is to get them off as soon as possible along with the undercarriage.

White does show the small things in significant quantity, there's a perfect brakground to compare what should be there, paint, and what should not.  I've owned four white vehicles, it's not uncommon.
