I'll eat sushi every now and again when we are out. Usually with crab or Salmon.
I'm a mean father, on 2 occasions I asked my youngest and oldest to try wasabi. The first time my daughter was 9, and I told her for $5 she only had to take a tiny taste. When she ate it she gave me a look of wonder why I would do that to her. I'm talking a portion the size of half of a peanut.
With my oldest son, 16 at the time, my brother and I were up front telling my son how hot it would be and we would give him $30 if he ate a teaspoon of it. He eats spicy food all the time. He ate it, spent the rest of the time in the restroom, and the next day said his stomach still hurt.
Most of the time I will stay away from the raw fish as it can be easily a carrier of contamination.

Speaking of Japanese food, I love me some ramen noodles. Freshly made noodles, with pork belly, are the sh*t!

Used to live in Maine and loved (and still do) seafood ... baked, boiled, fried, or steamed. Sushi is (for me anyways) an acquired taste .... it's not for this guy. Then there's my brother who insists he won't eat anything that pees in the same water it swims in ....

We used to go to a place in Elizabeth Maine (if I remember correctly) where you ate at picnic tables on the rocks of the coastline. 1 1/2lb. lobster with salad, fries and a soda were $9.95. If you wanted seconds, the lobster was around $3.00.

Cape Elizabeth maybe? ... went to college and worked for a while in neighboring South Portland. Best eating in Maine are at places like you went to ... fishermen's co-ops. Pick a lobster out of the tank, then they steam it along with some clams and corn, BYOB, pick a picnic table and watch the boats come in ... doesn't get much better than that imho. In 2002 we were looking for a place to have our wedding reception and the local pub was and is a favorite of mine but they wanted $1800 to reserve the upstairs (that's not including food) ... out of our budget. Went to this PLACE, another favorite of mine. $10 a head and a good time was had by all. The weather even cooperated which doesn't always happen in Maine at the end of September- it was spitting snow the day before.

That's the place, it was near Portland. We go to the White Mountains in New Hampshire and 1 day while there drive over to L.L.Bean and do some shopping and then end up in Cape Elizabeth. It's been 8 years or longer since we took that drive. As the kids got older they would rather hike than drive in the truck for a few hours. Can't blame them, I hate the back seat.

Isn't Katsu Chicken just Japanese-style fried chicken breast?
